Planning a Nothern Serengeti Safari ?

The Great Wildebeest Migration is an extraordinary event that takes place in Serengeti, attracting tourists from all over the world. It is considered to be the most prominent movement of wild animals globally, and it's no wonder it is listed as one of the eight Natural Wonders. Mikumi Planet Safaris offers an exceptional nature tour in northern Tanzania, where you can witness this amazing spectacle. The migration involves around 1.5 million wildebeests, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras, elands, and gazelles. Predators follow the herds to prey on the weak and vulnerable. The journey starts in March or April when the animals leave their calving grounds in southern Serengeti, looking for water sources. They travel through the south-central Seronera outskirts into the Western Corridor and Grumeti River, arriving in April or May, where they stay until June. They then head towards the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, crossing the perilous Mara River around July or August, before returning via the same route, heading towards Lobo and Loliondo in eastern Serengeti around October to November.

SERENGETI WILDBEEST MIGRATION TRAILS BELOW

North Serengeti

The Mara River, located in the northern Serengeti, offers the most spectacular river crossings during the months of July, August, and September. This river is known for its formidable depth and steep cliffs, which pose a significant challenge to the wild cattle attempting to cross it. As a result, many of these animals become exhausted and terrified, adding to the drama of the crossing.

           East Serengeti

From October to November, you can experience the Serengeti East Safari where the massive herds migrate from the Masai Mara in Kenya to the Serengeti National Park's fertile plains, located east of the Grumeti River. This journey takes them through Lobo and Western Loliondo and under the impressive Gol mountains. As professionals, We recommend taking advantage of this opportunity to witness this remarkable natural phenomenon.

West Serengeti

During the months of April, May, and June, a significant number of blue wildebeests and zebras can be spotted on a Serengeti West Safari in the Western Corridor, located south of the Grumeti River. While some of them are pursued by lions from behind, others have to face the danger of giant Nile crocodiles ahead.

       Central Serengeti

The Seronera Valley's Serengeti Central Safari provides a game-viewing experience throughout the year, boasting abundant populations of bovids, terrestrial predators, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Even after the magnificent herds of blue wildebeests and zebras have migrated, the wildlife remains intact, making it a great destination for game viewing.
