Serengeti Migration
The Great Wildebeest Migration
The Great Wildebeest Migration is an extraordinary event that takes place in Serengeti, attracting tourists from all over the world. It is considered to be the most prominent movement of wild animals globally, and it’s no wonder it is listed as one of the eight Natural Wonders. Mikumi Planet Safaris offers an exceptional nature tour in northern Tanzania, where you can witness this amazing spectacle. The migration involves around 1.5 million wildebeests, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras, elands, and gazelles. Predators follow the herds to prey on the weak and vulnerable. The journey starts in March or April when the animals leave their calving grounds in southern Serengeti, looking for water sources. They travel through the south-central Seronera outskirts into the Western Corridor and Grumeti River, arriving in April or May, where they stay until June. They then head towards the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, crossing the perilous Mara River around July or August, before returning via the same route, heading towards Lobo and Loliondo in eastern Serengeti around October to November.
